It's time for me to start scrapbooking again with all my pics of Lilly and I've only used Creative Memories scrapbooks before. For those of you who have used both, which one did you prefer and why? If you liked other scrapbooks that I can find in a craft store or online tell me about those too! Thanks for your help! |

I started with creative memories, & I thought I loved it. However when I found SU, I realized how much easier it is. I do not like the strap hinged albums. I like the freedom of moving pages around easily. I like any album you can drop pages in. Creative memories does have some nice items, but I prefer SU. ditto, I can't scrap back to back, I like having free pages that I can move around. I also don't care for the white background on the CM books. |

I prefer Stampin' Up. Same reasons as Susanne. Once a page breaks on a CM album, it's a loss. It cannot be repaired. With SU, you can slide pages in and out of the protectors and rearrange. __________________ |

I can't use post albums really because I usually want to put in more pages than they can hold (I have 80 pages in my wedding scrapbook)...so I am a total Creative Memories fan because of the hinges. I scrap chronologically, so it does not bother me about the straps. If I mess up though, I find it's no bother to take the album apart and reorganize. I just wait until I am finished with the album. I tend to do "theme" albums; I just finished 4 - one of my wedding, one of our honeymoon, one of our 2005 holidays, and one of our first cruise together. That makes it easier for me because I gather my pictures from the event, the sort them by theme or time, and then scrap sections of pictures (like Day 1 of our cruise - hope that makes sense). Also, I use all sorts of paper in my album - I don't just scrap on the white page. I cut my 12x12 paper and glue it to the CM page, then layer my pictures and embellishments on top. HTH! ETA: All of my post-bound albums have 3" posts in them and that's as big as I've ever seen a post! |

I think CM albums are the best. I began using them in 1996, and won't use anything else. I do scrap chronologically, but once in a while I get a page or group of photos a little out of order - to me it's not a big deal. I usually disassemble the album and work the pages, then put them in the album. So the album only contains finished pages, no blanks. I've taken apart and reassembled albums dozens of times, and I've never had a strap break or the stitches (staples) come out of a page. My kids enjoy the CM albums freely, and though they are usually careful to handle them properly now that they are older, I used to regularly find their ABC book open, face down, under the sofa. Except for some scratched page protectors, there's little visible wear and tear. If a stitch was somehow broken, the remedy would be to cut the reinforced edges off the page, slip it into a matching-size CM portrait page, and place it back in the album. Since CM albums are guaranteed for the lifetime of the purchaser, your CM consultant would provide that replacement if it was because of product defect. I have heard of the stitches breaking on non-CM strap-hinge pages. The CM stitches are stainless steel. Other companies use cheaper metals which will eventually rust and are more likely to break. Finally, my house is dusty. We don't have A/C or recirculating forced air heat in our home, so there are no filters anywhere to help with the dust. If my scrapbook pages were top loaded, they'd be full of dust. With CM's page protectors that are sealed at the top, my photos are dust-free. __________________ Last edited by malindaplace; 07-07-2006 at 01:08 PM.. |

Here is my 2 cents....I agree with Malinda. I love to scrap and make cards, but I usually keep them seperate. I prefer CM for scrapping and SU for cards. I worry about stamping with the photos. I bought craft ink, but was too impatient to use it. Also, and this is just me, but scrapping without stamps is ever so much faster for me. |

I like CM because they hold up, my kids love looking at their "books" and they have to be strong and so far no problems... I have used them for over 10 years. I agree with the above, CM for scrapbooking and SU! for cards and other gifts or projects! HTH. |

I have seen CM books, but I never scrap anything in order, so I wasn't sure I could deal with that. But, I didn't try so I have no valid opinion on them. I do however use 3 ring albums. It doesn't look as nice as the ones that open and lay flatter for the 2 page lo's to flow, but most of my pages tend to be one pagers anyway. I love that I can just add them in and take them out whenever I want without the hassle of unscrewing the posts or making sure I have enough post extenders for the book. I use lots of stuff on my pages so they can get lumpy..that is another reason why I use a 3 ring. I use just regular page protectors and I don't have any dust problems with my pages. I keep most of mine out on the Entertainment Center and just swipe the album over when I dust. __________________ |

I like the ring bound SU books....or really any book that you can slip your pages into....I have given empty books to family members as gifts....then give them pages throughout the year. The CM books are nice....I might consider them for a special project....just haven't tried one. Pretty happy with the pages you can easily take in and out. __________________ bonniebluedenim |

I started Cm but as soon as SU came in to my life I felt free to be more crative, Now don't get me wrong CM was good and was a fabulous way to learn, I have many CM Albums and will leave them the way they are but I honestly love SU for the personal creativity it offers, CM seems alittle to sterile for me now Last edited by berrygrape; 07-09-2006 at 03:23 PM.. |

CM albums are absolutely beautiful and I always get compliments on how nice they look. I have had to redo a page from time-to-time because I've put it on upside-down but since I almost never scrap directly on the white page, all I have to do is peel off the paper and flip it around. CM stickers and papers are not as fun/interesting and the colors don't really appeal to me so I use SU papers, stamps and other non-SU products. I have had trouble with post albums coming apart or breaking and don't like the look of ring albums. I will use a cheaper, exciting-looking album (ex. Jo-Ann's) for a quick gift though and will admit that slipping the pages in is really easy. |

I started out with CM albums and used them for years. But I find myself scrapping differently than I used to in so many ways that I know prefer top loading pages. I have many CM albums that aren't finished yet, so for those I am using either CM's portrait pages or top loading strap hinge pages made by westrim that I get at either JoAnn's or Michael's. I find that since I have stopped obsessing over which side of a page I should be working on that I am much happier. I know it's weird but I feel better knowing I can work in whatever order I want and whatever I feel like scrapping and still have everything "in order" very easily. It's not just putting the pages in order, but realizing that you need enough room to do a 2 page spread and only having one page in the middle of your book where it belongs. Condense or create a new page for the sake of continuity??? Also, I was getting a little bored with the whole thing, but since I relented (thanks to my great SU demo) and started using brads, metals, ribbons and fibers in my layouts, that I my interest has totally skyrocketed again. I was always more likely to do the most involved CM formula I could find before anyway, so I probably shouldn't be surprised by that. LOL. My CM consultant and SU demonstrater also know each other pretty well and I know I "go both ways" (LOLOL)--so life is sweet! |

I started scrapping with stamps....so I can't begin to find myself using stickers. So I prefer creating my own background papers and embellishments to match my pictures perfectly. Every once in a while I might use a word rub on or something. But I just don't like the sticker look. I have never used CM albums so I can't compare it. But I do know that I do not scrap in order...so I probably prefer a more user friendly album. SU paper is safefor scrapbooking. And I use craft ink. I also like to use embellishments. __________________ |

I started out using CM when I started scrapping in 95. Of course at that time they were really the only thing out there. I really like the album covers, BUT I do not like the strap hinges. The problem I have with CM strap hinges is that you scrap directly to the pages and I had a couple of the stitches aka staples pull out of completed pages. I haven't used SU album. I do use post bound. I have a few made by Dalee, you can find these at Joanns, LSS or online. I also really like CTMH albums. __________________ |

I also use the CTMH albums. I can't scrap in order for some reason and like the post bound, top loading albums that way I can move things around whenever I want and I am not stuck scrapping in order. Haven't tried the SU albums yet though I am thinking they are like the CTMH ones though. |

I was a Creative memories Consultant until I discovered Stampin' Up! I love the felxibility of their products, and I can't scrap back to back either. I am not a chronological scrapper, so I need to drop pages in where they belong whnever I finish. I don't like the white, natural, and black pages. I weighed my old Creative Memories pages down so much because i covered them with colored papers. Stampin' Up rules! |

I also started with CM albums only and swore I would never use anything else. Now I can't stand to even look at those albums. If I had the time and the money, I would totally redo with post bound albums. I have a lot of stuff out of order in my CM albums that I can't change now. Yes, you can take the album apart & rearrange the pages, but I do everything in 2 page layouts and you move 1 page it messes up 2 - two page layouts. I usually get my albums from Joann's or Michael's with my 40% off coupon. I get just as many pages in my post bound albums as i got in my CM albums. I used to sell CM and have many friends that still do. I am not against their products in any way, I just do not like their style of albums. Just my opinion!! __________________ |

I prefer anything that is 3-ring style. I have used CM albums in the past and some of their albums are beautiful but I prefer the 3-ring as I don't scrap in order (and often my vacation albums end up being 50 pages). I do like the smaller albums by other companies (SEI K&Company) so If I am doing a gift or something I consider those. 90% of my albums are 3-ring though. And the SU ones are really nice. I think they are worth the extra couple bucks. __________________ Laura Jean / LJ |

I prefer CM albums. I've used other types - post bound, 3 ring binders, etc. and still come back to my Creative memories albums. For me, they are the sturdiest. I have some top loading albums and the pages creep up out of the protector at the top -- don't know why, but that bugs me no end! __________________ Currently owned by two Westies my gallery |

I'm a total CM hinge scrapbook fan. Here's why- I really like there feel and don't like the shiny-ness of the top-loading page protectors. It works well for me because I am really picky and organized with my photos and I scrapbook chronilogically. I also consider my albums primarily photo albums so I don't have any lumps or bumps (plain jane)- although I stamp plenty and used to use stickers and mat here and there (not so plain jane). AND I have recently solved the frustration of having only white pages when using CM- in fact I just posted a thread about this- here's the link: I started using my SU inks to totally color my CM hinge pages. NO MORE WHITE, yeah!!! I just was doing a beautiful layout of my kid and his cousin at a playground- background color Really Rust- oooooh, so pretty. Anyway- happy stamping, scrapping, being to all! -Makani |

I currently use CM for scrapbooking, but mostly because I was a former CM demo and have a ton of CM albums lying around. However, once I finish using my CM albums I'm switching over to SU. Not just because I'm a SU demo now, but because I want a true 12x12 scrapbook and the freedom to move the pages around. I like to scrapbook chronologically and when I use the CM albums I really have to plan ahead to do that which drives me crazy. |

SU. I don't stamp chronologically. I am so far behind. I like to be able to move the pages around once I do them. I will do a few, put them in the book, but when I do another page that would go with the first one (I generally make 1 page layouts) I can move them around so they go with the one beside. Just my preference though. |

I too like the top loading pages b/c I can move them around. I used to be a consultant with CM and still love the feel and rounded corners of their albums. I also like the strap hinges better than post bound. In the end I think the fact that I don't scrap in order makes the SU! or any top loading ones nice. Also, you can stamp on the cover of the SU! albums, added bonus __________________ |

I use anything top loading. I just bought a new album at Michael's that is top loading but has a plastic hinge so you can adjust the amount of pages without needing to add posts. To me, this has the ease of strap hinge and the benefits of top loading. I know you can just buy the plastic straps and convert any scrapbook into a hinge style. I just did an album and have 50 pages in it so far and this method is really sturdy. Kristy |

When I started scrapping all of my friends were using CM so that's what I started with. I found the albums to be VERY frustrating . . . basically forcing you to pre-plan you pages and scrap chronologically. Then I became a SU demo and got a 12x12 album in my starter kit . . . that album was a lightbulb moment! I LOVE top-loading albums and that's what SU albums are. No more having to scrap chronologically . . . I can move pages VERY easily. Plus, CM albums are NOT 12x12 . . . they have that metal strip down the one side that you have to work around and unless you want all your pages a solid color (white, black, tan) you HAVE to cover each page. |

I started out with CM and still love thier album. But I can tell you this much I decided rather than to wallpaper each page and adhere it down on the white page.I cut the page before I even start to fit onto the white page first. Then I slide on the page protector. The white page is now just adivider for me to slide my 12x12 finished page into the protective cover,I no longer adhere it to the page this way I can now just pull it out and reorganize it and put it into sequence later if I ever need to later on.Then the next page goes behind the backside of the white page. I hope this makes sence. I do like the binder albums for this reason.just work right on your 12x12 paper and slide right into the page protector when your done with it.Just makes it much easier to resequence pages later on again if you need to. __________________ |

I, too, started out with CM and moved on to SU. I think almost everyone I know does this transition. I like to create my pages and put them in page protectors without putting them in the book yet. And, sometimes I move pages around. I am not chronologically organized and am always behind. And, sometimes, I just like to pick and choose what I would like to scrap (not in chronological order). SU albums far exceed the quality at any scrapbook store. I learned this the hard way. The SU page protectors have a matte finish that does not pick up glare and does not crinkle so it does not interfere with your work of art after all of that hard work you put into it. The price may seem pricey for an SU album but it is well worth it. At least buy the page protectors and put them in the albums you have already purchased and buy the SU albums the next time. Also, you can buy the post extenders if you use the post albums to expand for more pages. Check it out for yourself. Ask your SU consultant to show you a scrap page in a SU page protector and then compare it to a non-SU page protector. Then, make your decision. |

honestly, I am a SU demo, and my personal books are both CM, when i order one I make sure I get enough page protectors to cover the pages they give you, then I go to walmart and get the toploading hinge pages and Load up on them b/c they are not always there. __________________ |

I was a CM consultant and have about 6 albums either done or almost completed. After about 3 years I grew tired and bored of the "white or black" pages that CM offered, so I stopped scrapbooking all together. Then I found SUp, but only used stamps for cardmaking. Once SUp began to showcase scrapbooking more, I bought just one album as I was a Demo by then. Now, I only use SUp albums but in your case any top-loading album would do. The hinge albums IMO just don't allow you to be creative with all the different kinds of papers that are available in the market. SUp continues to add to their decorative paper line and has some great ones for the holidays. It's really a personal choice. CM albums have that elegant look, but SUp's Linen albums are very nice and I have two of them. Do you want to be able to move the pages around or contantly taking the album apart to add/remove pages? And once a mistake is made on the strap-hinge page, you have to start over with a new page. Good luck with your choice. __________________ |

Lisa, That is a fabulous idea! I'm an old CM demo and have lots of left over albums. I do a lot of wallpapering, but I've never thought of not adhering the paper to my album. I think I will do this with my 2006 album (hoping to get it started this weekend). __________________ |
